There’s history in this town no matter where you go. The present day Prattsville Diner was once the site of Grace Episcopal Church, donated by Zadock and Mary Pratt. Following Mary’s death, Zadock married his fifth wife (no snickering, please–women died earlier than men back in those days–three top causes of death: consumption, childbirth and fire caused by kitchen stove accidents). The Episcopal Manse (called “rectory” in other religions) was built across from the historic Pratt Homestead, now the Zadock Pratt Museum with funds donated by the Pratt family. Built in the form of a cross, an addition to the building was later added on, obscuring the original design. The building, pictured here, is now a private residence.
