A quick tour of Stephentown yesterday and today.
Let’s start with a chronological biography of Prattsville Town Founder Zadock Pratt.
Zadock Pratt, Jr. (named after his father, Zadock, also an early tanner) was born October 30, 1790 in Stephentown, Renssselaer County, New York to Zadock Pratt and Hannah Pickett-Pratt.
Wiki tells us that Stephentown was first settled around 1765. The town was formed in 1788, from the East Manor of Rensselaerwyck District. Early Stephentown settlers like the Pratts were from New England, primarily Rhode Island and Connecticut. Zadock, Sr. and Hannah were from Saybrook, CT.
